Der Künstler Theo Mercier ist das, was man wohl ein Multitalent nennen könnte, denn zu seinen Skills gehören Bildhauerei, Malerei und die Fotografie. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil seiner Arbeiten ist auf jeden Fall seine eigene Anschaung des Begriffs “Humor”, wie man den Bildern oben entnehmen kann.
“I like talking about death with a rotten cabbage and a missing tooth and to deal with sex with eggs and dirty socks. I like to inject those notions into objects that have nothing to do with sex or death, using, for instance, an innocent tea pot.”

Caleb Charland verzichtet bei seinen außergewöhnlichen Fotografien komplett auf digitale Manipulation und schießt alle seine Bilder mit einer normalen Kamera. Bei den Vorbereitungen zu seinen Projekten stellt er sich immer die drei im Statement hervorgehobenen Fragen, die die Basis für seine Arbeit bilden.
Wonder is a state of mind somewhere between knowledge and uncertainty. It is the basis of my practice and results in images that are simultaneously familiar and strange. I utilize everyday objects and fundamental forces to illustrate experiences of wonder. Each photograph begins with a simple question “How would this look? Is that possible? What would happen if…?” and develops through a sculptural process of experimentation. As I explore the garage and search through the basement to solve these pictures, I find ways to exploit the mysterious qualities of these everyday objects and familiar materials.

Wenn ich mir Daniel Cronins Aufnahmen von Insane Clown Posse Fans anschaue, werde ich automatisch an diese sehr kurzweilige Crossover-Zeit in den neunziger Jahren erinnert. Zeitreise quasi. Ich glaub das war auch die Geburtsstunde von IPC. Anyway, denn das nächste was mir in den Kopf kommt, ist das diese Fans irgendwie auch in dieser Zeit hängengeblieben sind. Zumindest optisch. Irgendwie erschreckend, aber auch irgendwie faszinierend. Daniel Cronin selbst schreibt dazu:
Say what you will about the Insane Clown Posse’s music. You can not deny that they have some of the most loyal and dedicated fans around. They have built an entire lifestyle and genre of music with little to no main-stream backing over the last 15+ years. I find that interesting and set out to document fans before a show while they we’re performing on their ‘Happy Daze’ tour.

The Selvedge Yard hat ein schönes Posting, in dem es um James Deans Rolle als Stilikone geht. Ist natürlich nichts Neues, da ich aber die drei Filme von ihm doch schon ziemlich mag, ist mir das ganze einen Beitrag wert. Passt ja auch gut hier drauf, da es ja sowieso mehr um die Fotos geht.
The irony is that James Dean was considered anything but stylish by many of his Hollywood peers of the day. He turned heads and created a legend, not by dressing up – but by dressing down. Established style icon Humphrey Bogart looked down his nose at Dean, considering him a punk and a slob. On Jimmy’s passing, Bogart had this to say – “Dean died at just the right time. He left behind a legend. If he’d lived, he’d never have been able to live up to the publicity.” Bogart was right in that Dean was difficult, and definitely not a natty dresser – but his impact on style can never be diminished.
James Dean cemented the rebel uniform for his generation of youth, and for many to come, through his very personal portrayal of Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause.

Über die Arbeiten des Fotografen Neil Krug haben wir hier ja schonmal was gebracht, jetzt hat der Mann aber wieder ein paar neue Arbeiten am Start, weswegen wir ihm mal wieder ein bißchen unserer Aufmerksamkeit schenken und die sind, wie die bisherigen Sachen absolut sehenswert.

Der Fotograf Kelly Castro und der Künstler Santiago Ortiz schaffen es mit ihrer Serie “Love is Patient”, eine interactive Collage von Fotografien entstehen zu lassen, die auf dem Prinizip des Voronoi Algorithmus beruht. Wie das genau funktioniert kann ich jetzt leider nicht erklären, ist mir aber im Moment auch egal, da man als Endprodukt, diese tollen multimedialen Schwarz-Weiß-Collagen bekommt, in denen kein Gesicht zweimal vorkommt.

Zugegeben, ich bin keiner der viel oder oft “sexy” Content oder sowas in der Art bringt. Gelegentlich darf aber auch das mal sein und bei diesen Fotos von Scarlett Johansson, die der Fotograf Sheryl Nields für das Esquire Magazin gemacht hat, konnte ich einfach nicht wiederstehen.
